The E2E Approach

The "End-to-End" testing approach enables engineering teams to test the entire system by traversing all application layers (User Interfaces, Business Services, Integration Logic and Data Access Logic).

This approach is based primarily on business scenario tests that are positioned at the top of the test pyramid, allowing the system to operate under normal conditions intended for production environments.

Adopting such an approach enables engineering teams to secure their development and address both the question "How to make the things right?" and also the question "How to make the right things?".

Implementing an "End-to-End" approach is not without difficulties as it requires significant coordination between development teams (Front-End, Back-End, APIs, Data), the use of diverse tools (Lowcode, factories, cloud-based platforms...) and multiple technical-functional skills.

Anticipating your testing strategy is the key to succeeding with such an approach, as it enables you to establish an effective framework to facilitate communication and mitigate risks.

KOUKA has already helped numerous clients implement E2E tests (FinTech, Industry, Banking & Insurance and Retail) while avoiding pitfalls like Over-engineering or infinite runs.

Non-Regression Tests (NRT)

Non-regression tests let teams verify the stability of their applications following updates. They form a safety net to prevent side effects causing unforeseen complications.

Automating this family of tests boosts efficiency, allowing QA teams to refocus their efforts on higher-value business challenges.

Some good practices to adopt for a successful NRT automation project:

  • Properly integrating your Test Factory with your Software Factory is essential.
  • Not automating all NRTs is a pragmatic choice - maximise value, minimise effort (Pareto 80/20).
  • Grouping reusable scenarios (Auth, Loading...) as a framework can accelerate automation of key scenarios.
  • Structuring a Domain Specific Language (DSL) can facilitate exchanges between team members.

API Tests

Nowadays, APIs and Web-Services are everywhere; in our applications, with our hosting providers, with our partners and even openly on the internet. They are used to access data, trigger processing or combine both.

Properly testing your APIs / Web Services is fundamental to ensure proper integration of a module and/or application with its surrounding ecosystem. API integration is generally bidirectional, this is especially true in "Micro-Services" architectures.

Several best practices must be observed to succeed in an API test automation project;

  • Clearly defining your APIs' exchange contracts and adopting appropriate "versioning" is necessary to improve interaction between your development teams and facilitate the work of "QA".
  • Opting for living documentation can improve the maintainability of your test factory (as well as your software factory).
  • Structuring your projects and test data sets early can accelerate automation of your API test scenarios.
  • Combining algorithmic skills in languages like Python, Java, JavaScript or Microsoft .NET with data manipulation skills (SQL...) can help increase the efficiency of your automated tests.

Performance Tests

Nowadays, application performance has become as important as its relevance. Keeping your application portfolio in good shape is an important factor to ensure user engagement.

To succeed in this challenge, it is essential to adopt a quality approach aimed at measuring the technical performance of your applications, these measurements are intended to highlight implementation and/or configuration flaws such as for example:

  • Poor loading times for applications (Desktop & Mobile).
  • Poor response times from Back-End platforms.
  • Performance "bottlenecks" often linked to underlying failures (Memory leaks, excessive traffic...).
  • Inability to support legitimate traffic and/or usage growth.
  • Inability to return to normal operation following an incident (lack of resilience...).
Load Tests

Load tests allow you to verify the capacity of an application or system to handle sudden (or even progressive) traffic increases, done by organizing simultaneous requests on the platform while observing its behavior.

Several strategies can be adopted to bring the test closer to real usage conditions (Number of successive and/or simultaneous users, network configurations, browsers & devices...).

It is essential to succeed in your load tests to properly choose the KPIs (always contextually), a combination of operational metrics (CPU consumption, Memory and I/O...) and operational metrics (Load time, response times, number of errors...) enriches the test results and allows better analysis.

KOUKA consultants support you in implementing such systems based on the following platforms:

Stress Tests

A stress test aims to push an application beyond its normal operating range to measure its resilience (Extra-load, chaotic manipulation...).

The impression of application instability is one of the main causes of user engagement loss, thus, stress tests aim to identify behaviors that can create this impression in order to better adapt them.
